So, this blogging thing.....

So, blogging…….

It has not really caught on for me. I really want it to work! I guess it is really like exercising. I really want a body like I did when I was 28, not 38.

Summer is going well. Tessa started two weeks of day-camp with the Girl Scouts. My poor little love was so nervous. But she is having a BLAST!

Amanda has her first “wobbly” teeth. (Thank you, Charlie and Lola for wobbly instead of loose) My baby girl has her first loose tooth. I am torn between being happy and sad at the same time.

I have sold my first two items on Etsy!! Very excited. I created a Facebook site for my store and thanks to my friends, I have over the 25 LIKES needed!!!!

I have put up a few more items on Etsy. I hope they take off. I like selling what I make.

Ooopsss.............

Well, just like exercising, my blogging fell off the planet.  Who is surprised, really?  Not I.

It has been a crazy few months.  Spring is IEP and Katie Beckett Medicaid Waiver re-determination time in my household.  Never a good time.  And now, Amanda may lose her Katie Beckett for lack of clinical use.

And in April, we lost Little Man.  The kitty who was always destined to break my heart.  He also broke Tessa's heart.  It was cancer and it was quick.  We will always miss him.

I have tried selling a few items that I have made.  Baby blankets, cloth dolls etc.  No bites.  Did end up making and selling a baby dress, booties and hat set.  But that was time consuming beyond belief.

So I am going to back to knitting a few hats and crocheting hats and blankets for the babies.  Have a few bereavement items to line and drop off.

And maybe find time to blog :)

NICU Eye Masks

I make these for CHERUBS but any preemie charity could use these.  They are meant to protect a baby's eyes while in the NICU.

NICU EYE MASK

Need two pieces of flannel fabric and a darkening fabric(Denim or corduroy), pins, template, sewing machine, needle, thread, scissors

Cut out Template

1. Layer the three pieces of material as following: Flannel 1 face up, Flannel 2 face down so that the two right sides face each other and then place the darkening material on top.

Here I am using two very different fabrics to show the difference.

2. Place the template on top of all three fabrics and cut them all out at the same time. I cut multiple eye masks at once.
3. Pin around so that the pieces will stay together.

Cut out

Separated to show different layers

Placed together

4. Go to the sewing machine and sew around the mask about 4/8ths (the line between 3/8 and 5/8) this doesn't have to be so precise just even. make sure to leave a space open at the top so that you can turn the whole thing right side out later on.

5. Trim so that you have about 1/4 inch left all around. and clip the curves so that they turn better.

6. Turn right side out and shape. Iron your mask flat. Turn in open edge and hand sew with a hidden stitch. I used a ladder stitch..

A little homemade pet therapy

The perils of Winter.

Poor Tessa.  She learned the hard lesson about watching too much TV and computer time.  She got a vicious headache.  Curl into a ball level.

She did go outside in the early afternoon to play in the snow but it was really cold.  So she spent most of the afternoon on the couch or on her computer as I napped.  The bronchitis is getting my butt.

She ended up going upstairs while Craig was trying to nap.  He came downstairs to find Amanda on my computer playing Petville and told me that we were missing one.  He went upstairs to find her curled into a little ball crying.  So downstairs they came to get a little Motrin for her and a little cuddling with Daddy.
I got on the couch when he left to go get dinner.  I had her on my shoulder and called over the cats.  Buggy curled behind her knees and Little Man stretched out on my chest.  I wait about 5 minutes and then slid out to go help Amanda finish her dinner.

The cats curled up with Tessa and she passed right out.  15 minutes of pet therapy later, she woke up quite happy.

Blog Guilt

Ooopsss.....I have neglected my blog and I feel guilt!  I hate guilt.  I have enough in my life.  It drives me at times.

Been sick this last week.  Started as a sore throat but turned into bronchitis which flared my asthma badly.  And bronchitis and asthma are not as much fun as peanut butter and jelly.  Just saying.  Can I blame my lack of blogging on that?

I got some news today from the social worker who took my crocheted bereavement items to the local hospital.  She wanted to know if I wanted to include a short note with my items.  Now I am at a loss as to what to say.  She did say that she has a family in mind to receive one of my bereavement sets.  I am so honored to be giving something to a family in such a similar situation that I faced.

Monday Blues

Little girls went back to school!!!!!  And boy are they tired!!!

Beware of  a 7 yr old asking how to spell words while at their computer.  They may be asking how to spell a website :)

Tessa wants Wizards101.com.  Does not help that both her parents are gamer-geeks.  She wants to be one too.  Hence yesterday's post.  Unfortunately that left us having to explain that not everywhere online is safe for little girls.  And then came the tears that she is NOT a little girl.  She is seven and look how tall she was!

Oh the drama of being seven.  The world-ending heartbreak of not being able to play at an online gaming site.

I wonder what our dramas were at seven.  I am trying to remember.  Can you?

Lazy Sunday

Hurray for a lazy Sunday.  We did not have to visit Craig's parents as we had seen them yesterday and they leave Thursday for Puerto Rico.  We stayed home all day.

I made breakfast of bacon and pancakes.  Got a little ironing done.  Blocked the blanket I recently finished crocheting, and by recently I mean last night while watching a movie.  Then spent the day crocheting a baby hat while reading and then played DDO with Craig.

Had the ultimate MMO parenting achievement today when we were playing and Amanda was getting antsy.  So up I went and put Tessa in my seat to run my rogue around an open area with Craig and a guidie while I finished cooking dinner.  She looked awesome.  She waded into the fray swinging on Tinkabelle.  You can even see her fighting in the firewall.  Geek Parenthood FTW.

It is a new year!

Ok.  First post of 2011.

We told Panda yesterday that it was a new year and that she would have to not come into Mommy and Daddy's bed at night.   She has been suffering such bad nightmares lately. Anxiety caused by the Autism.  So Daddy gave her his magic words to scare away the nightmares and I gave her Pixie Dust to ward off the nightmares.  Then we tucked her into bed and went downstairs to play DDO.

We logged off DDO around 9 and sat and watched a movie.  Just before midnight, we heard the upstairs door open and close.  I went running up the stairs to hear her whining in the dark.  We were not in our bedroom.  It was early for a nightmare, then it hit me.  OOOPS Bad parenting moment.  We had forgotten to give her "nightmare" medicine which is a small dose of valium to help with anxiety over the nightmares.  So she settled into Craig's side of the bed.  Downstairs I went to give Craig a midnight kiss.

We put Amanda back in her bed and Craig cuddled with her until she fell asleep.

There is our New Year's Eve revelry.  Envious much?
